European Climate Law is a historic step on a global scale: it has made the European Union the first of the three largest greenhouse gas emitters in the world to be legally enshrined in climate neutrality. The same is true for the 2030 target: net CO2 emissions reductions of at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990.
The “Fit for 55” package is a kind of toolkit for meeting the EU’s 2030 climate goals on the way to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. It is extremely complex, including very far reaching conclusions which makes this package unprecedented. The scale of the transformation it will bring is simply staggering. However, if this transformation is really to take place, we must also invest in education, because it requires transformation as well.
European education must support Europe’s transition to a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable way of living and working. Sustainable development should be part of the entire spectrum of education and training, including curricula and teacher professional development, and also extend to the adaptation of educational buildings, infrastructure and activities. NEF Bielsko-Biała will answer which solutions are most needed and which are possible from the point of view of employers, local government, teachers and students.
